Safety critical medicals are medical assessments designed to evaluate an individual's fitness for safety-critical roles. 

These roles involve tasks where a sudden loss of consciousness, impaired judgement, or limitations in mobility could pose a significant risk to themselves or others.

What to Expect During a Safety-Critical Medical assessment

Vital Signs: Blood pressure, heart rate

Physical Evaluation: Assesses overall health, mobility, and fitness to meet the physical demands of the job, including height and weight.

Communication Assessment: Evaluates ability to effectively communicate and understand job instructions.

Mental Health Assessment: Conducted only if it is mentioned on the medical questionnaire.

Vision Assessment: Evaluates visual acuity.

Hearing Assessment: Evaluates hearing ability. Hearing loss must not exceed 30db averaged over frequencies ( applicable to NWR regulations)

Colour Vision Test:  Required for roles where colour differentiation is critical (Essential for some roles, especially the rail industry).

HAVS Assessment: Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome assessment for roles involving exposure to hand-transmitted vibrations.

Spirometry: Measures pulmonary function, specifically airflow volume and velocity.

Occupational Health Physician Referral: If further evaluation is needed, a referral will be sent to our occupational health physician.
